Water and waste water treatment
- The hydrogen economy is very dependent on access to billions of m3 of fresh or desalinated water – in addition to affordable green energy. We also need higher levels of efficiency and electrolyser production needs to be scaled up for reduced cost. We also need to source rare minerals or replace the cathode/anode materials.
- Türkiye: water is a scarce resource and Türkiye aim to expand the reuse of treated wastewater, to establish incentive mechanisms and to increase the wastewater reuse rate to 5% by 2023.
- Estonia: only 3 to 4 water companies that serve larger cities can manage sustainably in Estonia. As 70% of the infrastructure in the water sector has been built with subsidies, it is important to find a way to make future investments without subsidies, but at the same time without unreasonably raising the price of water services.
- Ukraine: water supply and wastewater treatment are among the most underfunded utilities sectors in Ukraine and also heavily damaged by the war.
