In the middle of February, we wrapped up an insightful program as part of the Norwegian Aquaculture Cluster, diving deep into the Romanian aquaculture sector and its market potential. With the Black Sea region offering new opportunities, we gained valuable insights into industry trends, innovative technologies, and sustainable practices.
📊 Romanian Aquaculture Sector – Key Facts:
🐟 Growing Industry – Romania has over 900 aquaculture farms, covering freshwater and marine production. The sector plays a crucial role in local food security and economic development.
🌊 Rich Natural Resources – With access to the Danube River, Black Sea, and numerous lakes, Romania offers excellent conditions for aquaculture expansion.
🔬 Need for Modernization – While the country has a long history in aquaculture, there is significant potential for technological advancements.
📈 Key Species – The sector primarily produces carp, trout, catfish, pike, and sturgeon, with an increasing interest in diversifying species and improving breeding techniques.
🌍 EU & International Market Potential – Romania’s membership in the EU provides access to funding and new markets, but there is a need for improved logistics, value-added products, and stronger industry collaboration.
